Meitheal Award

Tom O’Malley Annual Meitheal Award

Tom O’Malley 2023 Meitheal Award

The concept of the ‘Meitheal’ has its roots in the Irish community coming together at harvest time and working collectively for the common good.

The Mayo Association of Philadelphia’s Tom O’Malley Meitheal Award was developed to honor groups or organizations that are making significant contributions to the Delaware Valley Irish community.  The Award recipient should strive to make the world a better place and have a passion for helping others in the Irish community.

Tom O’Malley, after whom our Meitheal Award was named, was a former President of the Mayo Association of Philadelphia and a man of great honor who worked tirelessly for the Irish community.  In addition to the Mayo Association of Philadelphia, Tom was involved in the Delaware Valley Irish Hall of Fame, the Irish Memorial, the Friendly Sons of St Patrick, and was an active member of the Board of the St Patrick’s Day Observance Association.
